Grandma Thelma had 11 kids. My mother was one of them. This is her cornbread dressing that was served on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most of us kids continues her tradition.
Savory cornbread dressing, baked separate from the turkey but served with gravy over it.
|4 tbsp of margarine or butter (the original recipe uses bacon grease, and that's what I use, too)|
|1 1/2 cups yellow corn meal|
|1 cup flour|
|2 twp baking powder|
|1/4 tsp baking soda|
|1 tsp salt|
|1 3/4 cups buttermilk or soured milk.(milk with buttermilk powder woks, too)|
|1 medium onion diced|
|3 - 4 stalks of celery diced|
